Legendary G-Class to Get Powerful Engines and New Body Styles: Trademarks for Upcoming Models Already Filed

Mercedes-Benz is planning a major expansion of its legendary G-Class lineup. Trademark filings for the names G600, G700, G800, and G900 have been spotted on the website of the European Union Intellectual Property Office. This suggests the arrival of new, even more powerful versions of the iconic SUV, joining the current G550, all-electric G580, and the flagship AMG G63.

At the heart of these future models could be a new electrified V8, offered in mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid forms. Rumors point to a flat-plane crankshaft design, which would deliver sharper throttle response while helping the engine meet strict Euro 7 emissions standards. That could push performance levels beyond today’s AMG G63.

But it’s not just about power. New body styles are also expected. Mercedes has confirmed the return of the open-top G-Class Cabriolet, while a stretched three-row version is under consideration in response to the booming demand for full-size SUVs.

Meanwhile, Mercedes is working on a more compact “Baby G-Class.” It’s set to retain the ladder-frame construction and signature boxy styling of its bigger sibling but come in at a lower price point. Its launch is expected toward the end of the decade.

All told, the G-Class family is on track for significant growth — ranging from more attainable versions to ultra-luxurious and high-performance models. The strategy fits neatly into Mercedes’ focus on the premium segment and high-margin vehicles.
