Sharp's Fully Electric Minivan, from Appliance Maker, Coming Soon

The Japanese electronics giant best known for TVs and appliances is getting ready to roll onto the electric vehicle scene.

Sharp's Fully Electric Minivan, from Appliance Maker, Coming Soon

Sharp Corp., long recognized as a major player in consumer electronics, unveiled its LDK+ concept in September 2024 — a clear signal of its intent to enter the electric vehicle market.

Now, the company is preparing to showcase a near-production version of the all-electric minivan at the upcoming Japan Mobility Show 2025 (JMS-2025) in Tokyo. According to early reports, sales are expected to begin in 2027.

The LDK+, based on Foxconn’s Chinese-made Model A platform, will feature a distinctive Sharp design and a number of clever interior innovations. Highlights include rotating seats, a removable table, and a massive 65-inch passenger display.

The vehicle’s battery system and solar panels can reportedly be linked to a home power grid, allowing AI-assisted energy management between the vehicle and the household. In the event of a power outage, the van’s battery could even serve as a temporary backup power source for the home.

Sharp also plans to integrate advanced AI features and touch-sensitive controls into the vehicle, making it as much a smart device as it is a means of transport.

Full technical specifications are expected to be revealed during its official debut at the Tokyo auto show later this October.
