Daihatsu Midget X, K-OPEN, and K-VISION: Tiny Cars with Big Ideas
At JMS 2025, Daihatsu unveiled six forward-thinking concept vehicles that redefine compact innovation.
At the Japan Mobility Show 2025, Daihatsu showcased a lineup of experimental concepts built around its guiding philosophy: “DAIHATSUMEI — small but mighty.” Since its founding in 1907, the brand has specialized in creating compact vehicles designed for everyday life—and this year’s display revealed how that vision will evolve in the coming decade.
The spotlight was on six concept models, each representing a unique take on mobility. The Midget X carries the legacy of Daihatsu’s very first mini-truck, reimagined as a three-seat electric city capsule built for urban efficiency. The K-OPEN and its Running Prototype celebrate the pure joy of open-top, rear-wheel-drive motoring. Meanwhile, the K-VISION introduces a next-generation e-SMART hybrid system—offering extended range without the need for plug-in charging, plus the ability to power external devices.

On the commercial side, the KAYOIBAKO-K rethinks the “last mile” concept. This small electric van is designed for autonomous driving and community support in local areas. Rounding out the lineup is the e-ATRAI STICKER FACTORY, a whimsical yet functional “mobile sticker workshop” symbolizing the value of creative and meaningful work.
Daihatsu also presented the e-SNEAKER, a personal electric vehicle that hints at the brand’s vision for urban mobility in 2035—compact, connected, and full of character.
