Rendered 1996 Chevy Impala SS Is Automotive Eye Candy on Massive Wheels
The Impala has been absent from Chevrolet’s lineup for quite some time now. The final version rolled off the line between 2014 and 2020, and ever since it bowed out, a noticeable gap has remained in the brand’s portfolio.
It’s been years since the Chevrolet Impala disappeared from showrooms. The last generation was built from 2014 to 2020, and when production ended, it left a void that Chevy has yet to fill. Judging by the company’s current direction, there’s little hope the Impala nameplate will make a comeback anytime soon. Sedans simply aren’t where the profits are, so General Motors continues to pour resources into SUVs, crossovers, pickups, and electric models instead.

At this point, the only true low-slung car left in Chevy’s lineup is the Corvette — a range that now includes five versions, from the 490-hp Stingray all the way to the insane 1,250-hp ZR1X, capable of hitting 60 mph in under two seconds.

But this story isn’t about Chevy’s future plans or the Corvette family — those have been discussed endlessly. Today, we’re turning back the clock to the mighty Impala, specifically the seventh-generation model. A digital take on the 1996 Impala SS recently caught our attention, and it was simply too good not to share. This vividly rendered machine, sitting high on enormous wheels and dressed with wild details, looks ready to steal the spotlight at any custom car show — even though it doesn’t actually exist.

As the headline suggests, this 1996 Chevrolet Impala SS is purely a digital creation. The rendering comes from Instagram user @412donklife, who posted the artwork just a few days ago. Using digital tools, the artist transformed the classic sedan into a head-turning showpiece. The Lexani wheels — finished in a striking rose gold and red two-tone — are wrapped in ultra-thin tires and measure a massive 26 inches across. They fill the wheel arches perfectly, giving the car an exaggerated yet cohesive look.

Red accents on the wheels match the deep red paintwork that covers the car from bumper to bumper. Chrome trim is nowhere to be found — even the window surrounds have been blacked out for a sleek appearance. The headlights and taillights are smoked for an aggressive edge, while the Impala script appears on the rear quarter panels and the familiar Chevy bowtie sits proudly in the grille.

The cabin, visible through clear glass, showcases beige leather upholstery paired with rose-gold accents. The custom steering wheel echoes the design of those 26-inch Lexani wheels, complete with cross-drilled brake rotors visible behind them.
We have to admit — this virtual 1996 Chevrolet Impala SS looks absolutely fantastic. Still, we can see how some enthusiasts might think it’s a bit over the top. What about you? Would you call this digital dream ride a hit or a miss?
