Ford Performance Launches Complete Godzilla 7.3-Liter V8 and 10-Speed Transmission Package

Ford Performance has finally introduced one of its most anticipated crate powertrain packages, pairing the 7.3-liter "Godzilla" V8 from the Super Duty lineup with the 10R80 10-speed automatic transmission used in the Mustang. Dubbed the M-9000-PM73BA, the complete setup carries a price tag of $18,500 and includes much more than just an engine and transmission.

For builders looking for a nearly turnkey solution, the package also comes with the front-end accessory drive kit, engine control pack, starter, and several additional components needed to simplify installation.

Four Boxes, 737 Pounds of Parts

The complete package ships in four separate boxes and weighs a combined 737 pounds. Ford notes that the powertrain is intended for off-road and competition applications and is not certified for use in emissions-controlled street vehicles.

As with many crate engine packages, the lack of a California Air Resources Board executive order number means the setup is officially classified for racing or off-highway use. However, owners of pre-emissions classics and specially constructed vehicles in certain states may still have legal paths to installation.

The Heart of the Package: Ford's 7.3-Liter Godzilla V8

At the center of the system sits the naturally aspirated 7.3-liter Godzilla crate engine, which is also available separately under part number M-6007-73B for $9,790.

The pushrod V8 produces 430 horsepower and 485 lb-ft of torque. Built with a cast-iron block and aluminum cylinder heads, the engine was engineered with durability and simplicity in mind.

Accessories and Electronics Included

The front accessory drive kit, valued at roughly $850 on its own, includes an alternator, power steering pump, idler pulley, drive belt, and all required mounting hardware.

Buyers also receive the M-6017-73BA21 control pack, which contains the powertrain control module, a Bullitt-style airbox, and the electronic accelerator pedal.

On the transmission side, Ford includes a 10R80 automatic calibrated to 2021-2023 Mustang specifications. Mounting hardware, a transmission cooler, and the shifter cable assembly are part of the package, though the actual shifter must be purchased separately.

A Transmission Developed With GM

The 10R80 replaced Ford's older 6-speed automatic family and was jointly developed with General Motors. Designed for rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive applications, the transmission features four planetary gearsets and adaptive shift programming.

Its three overdrive gears help improve highway fuel economy while delivering quick shifts under hard acceleration.

From Godzilla to Megazilla

Introduced as the replacement for the aging Modular V10 in Ford's heavy-duty trucks and commercial vehicles, the Godzilla V8 has quickly become a favorite among performance enthusiasts thanks to its robust design and ease of maintenance.

For those wanting even more power, Ford Performance also offers the Megazilla lineup. The latest version, Megazilla 2.0, debuted in early 2025 and adds a Whipple supercharger to the formula.

The result is nothing short of outrageous: more than 1,000 horsepower running on premium gasoline.

At $18,500, the new M-9000-PM73BA package isn't cheap, but considering everything included—and the popularity of the Godzilla platform—it may prove to be one of the most attractive crate powertrain solutions currently available for custom builds and restomod projects.
