Bentley Reveals First EV, Officially Named Torcal

Bentley has released the first official teaser of its upcoming all-electric luxury SUV, confirming both its Torcal name and September 23 debut.

Bentley Reveals First EV, Officially Named Torcal

Bentley has unveiled the first official image of its upcoming electric SUV, confirming that the new model will be called Torcal and will make its public debut on September 23. While Bentley describes it as an urban-focused vehicle, the nearly 16.4-foot-long SUV remains a full-size luxury model. It also marks a major milestone for the British automaker, becoming Bentley's first fully electric production vehicle and establishing a fourth model family in the brand's lineup.

The teaser image highlights Bentley's newly designed badge positioned between slim LED taillights featuring faceted crystal-like elements. It also reveals a smoothly sculpted tailgate and a matte silver exterior finish. Spy prototypes tested around the world over the past two years have already hinted at the SUV's sleek, athletic proportions. Frameless windows, flush roofline detailing, and clean body surfaces suggest a more elegant design than the Bentayga, drawing inspiration from classic Bentley coupes such as the Continental R, Continental T, and Brooklands. Buyers can also expect available 22-inch wheels, an extensive paint palette, and nearly limitless personalization through Bentley's Mulliner division.

Inside, the Torcal will share its underlying technology with the upcoming electric Porsche Cayenne, but Bentley promises a significantly more luxurious execution. The cabin is expected to feature premium leather upholstery, handcrafted wood trim, a curved central touchscreen running Bentley-exclusive software, physical controls for key functions, and a redesigned steering wheel paired with a curved digital display.

According to Bentley's Head of Research and Development, Matthias Rabe, the new EV will combine the comfort of the Flying Spur with the agility of the Continental GT while becoming the quickest production Bentley ever built. It is expected to outperform the Continental GT Ultra Performance Hybrid, which reaches 62 mph in 3.2 seconds, and will also support ultra-fast charging capable of adding approximately 100 miles of driving range in less than seven minutes.

Bentley CEO Frank-Steffen Walliser described the Torcal as a bold step forward that reflects the company's vision of sustainable luxury while showcasing its latest technological advances.

Under the skin, the electric SUV is expected to closely mirror the upcoming Porsche Cayenne Electric. It will reportedly ride on Volkswagen Group's PPE platform with an 800-volt electrical architecture, a battery pack of around 112 kWh, DC fast-charging capability of up to 400 kW, and dual electric motors producing as much as 986 horsepower. Because of its larger size and less aerodynamic shape, estimated driving range is expected to fall between 348 and 370 miles on a full charge.

Walliser also emphasized that the Torcal is designed to be equally at home on long-distance road trips and daily city driving. Rather than replacing any existing Bentley model, it is intended to attract new customers to the brand while expanding Bentley's growing lineup.
