Rare 1980s Honda CT50 Motra Off-Road Bike Goes Up for Auction

The rare 1982 Honda CT50 Motra has surfaced at auction in the U.S. The compact off-road bike features a 49cc engine, a three-speed transmission with dual-range gearing, two cargo racks, and an unusual design intended for use beyond ordinary city pavement.

The Honda CT50 Motra debuted in Japan in 1982 as a small utility motorcycle with a clear off-road focus. The model stood out with its angular styling, increased cargo-carrying capability, and dual-range transmission. Production was limited, making the Motra an intriguing find today for collectors of Honda's small-displacement motorcycles.

Unusual Design and a 49cc Engine

The Motra being offered at auction was originally built for the Japanese market and eventually made its way to the U.S. through a previous owner. The bike is finished in green and retains its distinctive high-mounted fenders, front and rear cargo racks, engine guard, and single black vinyl seat. It also has dual mirrors, both center and side stands, and a rear grab handle.

The chassis rides on two-piece 10-inch wheels finished in green. They are fitted with 5.4-inch-wide Bridgestone tires. Braking is handled by drum brakes front and rear, while the suspension consists of a conventional front fork and two rear shocks mounted to the swingarm. According to the seller, the load-adjustable rear shocks are currently not functioning properly.

A speedometer sits directly ahead of the rider, with markings up to 50 mph and recommended shift points for both the low and high ranges. The instrument cluster also includes indicator lights and the ignition switch. The fuel gauge is mounted directly on top of the tank.

The single-cylinder, four-stroke engine displaces 49cc and is equipped with a kick starter. The powerplant is paired with an automatic clutch and a three-speed manual transmission with two ranges. Shifting is handled by a heel-and-toe lever, while power is sent to the rear wheel through a chain enclosed by a protective guard.

The five-digit odometer shows 1,988 miles, with about 31 miles added by the current owner. The bike's exact total mileage is unknown.

After purchasing the motorcycle in 2026, the seller performed routine maintenance that included cleaning the carburetor and replacing the engine oil, battery, and spark plug.

The bike's cosmetic condition is not perfect. The front fender and several black components show signs of repainting or touch-up work, while the front fork tubes have areas of worn finish. Photos also reveal some corrosion.

The current high bid for the Honda CT50 Motra stands at $1,200. The auction is scheduled to end in two days.
