Subaru Just Cut 8 Standard Features From the Impreza — Here’s What Owners Now Have to Pay For

Subaru has launched an updated version of the Impreza in Japan, with pricing starting at 2,865,500 yen, or about $19,000. The lineup has been streamlined to a single trim powered by a 2.0-liter gasoline engine, while a new Ignition Red exterior color is available for an additional 55,000 yen, or roughly $370.

Subaru announced the updated Impreza on September 17. The Impreza is one of the automaker’s core models, combining a sporty, practical design with responsive handling and modern safety technology.

As part of the update, Subaru has simplified the lineup to a single trim called Smart Edition. The model is equipped with a 2.0-liter gasoline engine. Subaru is also making navigation standard equipment across the lineup.

What Changed on the Equipment List

Several features that were previously included as standard equipment are now available only as paid options. They include:

• Full LED low- and high-beam headlights
• Steering-responsive headlights
• Adaptive Matrix LED high beams
• Cornering lights
• 10-way power driver’s seat and 8-way power front passenger seat
• Driver’s seat memory
• Side mirrors that automatically tilt in sync when the vehicle is shifted into reverse
• Memory and power-folding side mirrors
• Automatic driver’s seat retraction

Front-wheel-drive versions also lose several features from their standard equipment list. LED rear fog lights, a heated steering wheel and heated front seats are now optional on FWD models.

Those three features remain standard at no additional cost on versions equipped with all-wheel drive.

Subaru Adds a New Exterior Color

The update also brings a new exterior color to the Impreza lineup. Ignition Red is now available for an additional 55,000 yen, or approximately $370.

That brings the total number of available exterior colors to seven. The full palette includes Ignition Red, Crystal White Pearl, Ice Silver Metallic, Magnetite Gray Metallic, Crystal Black Silica, Sapphire Blue Pearl and Citron Yellow Pearl.
