Jaguar Type 01 Revealed as Brand's First Production Model After Its Reinvention — Pricing Announced

Jaguar has officially unveiled the Type 01, an all-electric luxury car that signals a dramatic new direction for the British brand. Series production is scheduled to begin in 2027, making the Type 01 the first production model of Jaguar's reinvention.

A few years ago, Jaguar announced a sweeping brand reset, deciding to move away from its traditional lineup and focus on expensive luxury electric vehicles. The Type 01 is the first major product to emerge from that strategy, with styling and technology aimed at a very different market than the brand's previous sedans and sports cars.

The Type 01 is a large four-door fastback measuring approximately 17.2 feet long. It has no rear window, giving the body a distinctive, uninterrupted shape. Design highlights include a long hood, sharply defined lines, flat body surfaces, a low roofline, and rear lights concealed behind a decorative grille.

The cabin is equally unconventional. Four individual seats are separated by a continuous central console that runs the length of the interior. The dashboard does away with the large central infotainment screen found in many modern vehicles. Instead, the driver gets a prominent 24-inch display, while a smartphone-like control interface in the center handles key vehicle functions.

Underneath, the Type 01 rides on a platform developed in-house by Jaguar. Its three-motor electric powertrain consists of one motor at the front and two at the rear, producing a combined 1,030 horsepower.

The rear motors can be completely disengaged during relaxed driving to improve efficiency. When maximum performance is needed, however, Jaguar says the electric grand tourer can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.2 seconds.

Energy comes from a 118-kWh battery pack, with a claimed driving range of up to 447 miles on a single charge. The chassis features air suspension, adaptive dampers, and rear-wheel steering, technologies designed to balance ride comfort with high-speed stability and maneuverability.

Production of the Jaguar Type 01 will begin in the United Kingdom in 2027. Pricing starts at £130,000, equivalent to approximately $175,000. Jaguar has not yet confirmed U.S. pricing or availability.
