Kia EV9 GT Unveiled: 501 hp and 0–60 in 4.3 Seconds

The electric flagship gets a sporty twist with a new Virtual Gear Shift system.

Kia EV9 GT Unveiled: 501 hp and 0–60 in 4.3 Seconds

At the 2025 IAA auto show, Kia pulled the covers off the EV9 GT — a high-performance version of the brand’s electric flagship. Following the spirit of the EV6 GT, the new model raises the bar for seven-seat electric SUVs.

The EV9 GT is powered by a dual-motor setup with a combined output of 501 hp: a 214-hp unit up front and a 362-hp motor at the rear. While the smaller EV6 GT still leads in outright power (576 hp), the EV9 GT delivers an impressive sprint to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds.

Engineers focused on driving feel as much as raw numbers. The new Virtual Gear Shift system simulates a traditional transmission, complete with the sensation of “shifting gears” and even a virtual redline that limits acceleration. The SUV also features an electronic limited-slip differential for sharper cornering and improved handling.

Inside, the EV9 GT blends generous space with cutting-edge tech: a panoramic display, premium materials, and the latest digital services. The cabin seats seven adults comfortably, while the driver gets access to a full suite of assistance systems.

Production is already underway in South Korea, with first deliveries to major markets — including the U.S. and Europe — slated for late 2025.

Kia is positioning the EV9 GT as a direct rival to the Tesla Model X and BMW iX. Tesla still dominates in outright speed and headline performance, but falls short in practicality and seating capacity. BMW emphasizes luxury and prestige, while Kia strikes a balance of performance, roominess, and innovation. For families who want both driving excitement and everyday usability, the EV9 GT makes a compelling case.
