A Pickup with the Spirit of Adventure: Santana 400 Officially Unveiled

Spanish automaker Santana Motors has officially returned to the market, unveiling its first new vehicle in 14 years — the Santana 400 pickup. The model was developed in partnership with Chinese companies Zhengzhou Nissan Automobile (a joint venture between Dongfeng and Nissan) and Anhui Coronet Tech.

Built on the Nissan Frontier Pro platform, the new Santana 400 will be offered in two versions: a diesel-powered 400D and a plug-in hybrid 400 PHEV. The hybrid version is claimed to offer the best range in its class — up to 75 miles (120 km) on electric power alone and more than 620 miles (1,000 km) of combined range. Its powertrain combines a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor for a total output of 429 horsepower and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque.

The 32-kWh battery supports fast charging and allows for emission-free driving both in cities and on off-road trails. Measuring 5.49 meters (18 feet) long and nearly 2 meters (6.5 feet) tall, the pickup features 28 driver-assistance systems, a 14.6-inch infotainment display, and a 360-degree camera system.

Staying true to the brand’s rugged heritage, the Santana 400 offers 9.4 inches (240 mm) of ground clearance, an approach angle of 31 degrees, a departure angle of 26 degrees, and water fording capability up to 800 mm (31.5 inches). The cargo bed holds over 1,100 liters (39 cubic feet) and carries up to 800 kg (1,760 lbs), while towing capacity reaches 3,200 kg (7,050 lbs).

Production will take place at the revamped Linares plant in Spain, with sales initially launching in Spain, Italy, and Portugal. The revival of Santana marks the comeback of another legendary name from Spain’s automotive history to the global stage.
