GM Design Teases a New Chevrolet Camaro Concept

Rumors once suggested the iconic Camaro name would return as an EV, but a fresh sketch hints at something different — a classic sports coupe, possibly even with a gas engine.

GM Design Teases a New Chevrolet Camaro Concept

Corporate social media posts should always be taken with a grain of salt — many are created by outside agencies. Still, every image that appears on an official GM Design account goes through strict internal review, so the release of this new sketch doesn’t seem accidental.

The image shows the silhouette of a low-slung two-door car that carries clear Corvette influences — long hood, muscular stance, and proportions typical of a front-engine coupe. A closer look reveals it’s not a current production model: both the body lines and rear-end design appear entirely new.

The sketch is part of GM Design’s ongoing “Tomorrow’s Vision Today” showcase — a collection of concept images highlighting the company’s future design direction and mobility ideas. While most of the exhibition focuses on autonomous and electric technology, it’s the sporty coupe that’s stealing the spotlight.

There are reasons to believe Camaro could truly make a comeback. For one, the trademark remains active. U.S. emissions regulations have also been temporarily relaxed, giving automakers more room to experiment with high-performance vehicles. And perhaps most notably, GM continues to invest in next-generation V8 engines — a move that strongly suggests the brand isn’t ready to abandon traditional performance just yet.

Still, the project’s fate remains uncertain. Developing a new sports car takes years, and the political or environmental landscape could shift again by 2026. If that happens, this new Camaro might share the same fate as many shelved EV programs — a bold idea paused before it ever hits the road.
