Jaguar to Begin a New Era with the Production Type 00: EV Promises 435 Miles of Range and Over 1,000 Horsepower

For Jaguar, 2026 is shaping up to be a true turning point. The British brand has been undergoing a radical transformation for years—one so bold that it has alienated part of its longtime fan base. Management has effectively chosen to start from scratch, deliberately distancing itself from its historical legacy, a move that has sparked the most controversy.

The first steps of the “new Jaguar” were taken in late 2024, when the company unveiled the Type 00 concept. It was conceived as a preview of a future production EV and, at the same time, a statement of the brand’s redesigned identity. Against a backdrop of criticism, falling sales, and the discontinuation of previous models, Jaguar opted for a hard reset. The lineup planned for 2026 is expected to define the company’s future, with the production version of the Type 00 as the centerpiece—though its final commercial name has yet to be announced.

Just as important is Jaguar’s shift in positioning. The brand is moving away from its traditional premium segment and focusing instead on large, high-end electric vehicles. The first model of this new family will take the form of a four-door GT built on the JEA (Jaguar Electric Architecture) platform. Its design will carry over the concept’s styling cues, while the interior and technology will match the expectations of a car with a starting price above $115,000.

Naturally, the biggest attention is on the hardware. Jaguar is promising a lithium-ion battery with a capacity exceeding 100 kWh, a driving range of more than 435 miles on the WLTP cycle, and ultra-fast charging capable of adding over 185 miles of range in just 15 minutes. The debut was initially expected sooner, but the production Type 00 did not appear in 2025. Reports now suggest that the commercial launch has been pushed to 2027, with a public unveiling planned for the second half of 2026.

The delay is said to be due to an intensive development process, including extensive cold-weather testing and fine-tuning. A tri-motor setup with output exceeding 1,000 horsepower is expected. The numbers are impressive, but whether they’ll be enough to reverse Jaguar’s sharp sales decline remains an open question—one that should be answered in the near future.
