Legendary Volkswagen Passat CC Could Return with a Sportier, More Elegant Design — New Renderings

Speculative renderings show the famous VW comfort coupe in a hypothetical new generation.

Legendary Volkswagen Passat CC Could Return with a Sportier, More Elegant Design — New Renderings

Back in 2008, a special version of the Passat made its debut at the Detroit Auto Show, featuring the now-famous “CC” badge — short for Comfort Coupe.

In essence, the car was a close relative of the then-current Passat B6, but it stood apart thanks to its sloping roofline, which gave the four-door sedan a more elegant and even sporty appearance. The Passat CC was also larger than the standard Passat and distinguished by its frameless door windows.

In the fall of 2016, the Passat CC was officially discontinued, effectively giving way to the similarly styled Arteon fastback. Ironically, the Arteon itself had an even shorter lifespan, remaining on the market for just six years.

As history often shows, everything comes full circle — and the automotive world is no exception. What the Passat CC might look like if it were to return to Volkswagen’s lineup was recently imagined by the Digimods Design studio.

Independent designers released renderings of the comfort coupe, preserving its original formula: a premium four-door sedan with a coupe-like silhouette and sharp, aggressive body lines.

Up front, the concept features slim matrix LED headlights seamlessly integrated into a minimalist grille, while the side profile has been given a more aerodynamic, flowing shape.

At the rear, the hypothetical new Passat CC sports full-width LED taillights and a sporty diffuser, further emphasizing the car’s dynamic character.

That said, there are currently no plans to revive the Passat CC. Volkswagen is focused on crossovers and electrification, devoting minimal attention, time, and investment to internal-combustion sedans.
