Cupra Raval Debuts as Volkswagen Group’s First Affordable Electric Hatchback
Cupra unveils the Raval electric hatchback, launching a new generation of affordable EVs from Volkswagen.
Spanish performance brand Cupra, part of the Volkswagen Group, has officially unveiled the production version of its new electric hatchback, the Cupra Raval. The model has taken nearly five years to reach production since the debut of the Cupra UrbanRebel Concept in 2021.
The Raval becomes the first model in a new family of affordable EVs from the Volkswagen Group built on the front-motor MEB+ electric platform. Later this year, the hatchback will be joined by other compact EVs including the upcoming Volkswagen ID. Polo, Skoda Epiq, and Volkswagen ID. Cross.

The production car closely follows the design of its early prototypes. The Raval features a sharply styled two-box body with prominent sculpted lines, a pointed front end, and slim almond-shaped matrix headlights. At the rear, a wide full-width light bar emphasizes the hatchback’s width.
To visually lighten the compact design, the lower body panels—including the sills, bumpers, and wheel arches—are finished in black cladding. Higher trims can be ordered with a contrasting roof that pairs with one of seven available exterior colors, including a distinctive Plasma Iridescent paint.
The front air intake uses an active shutter system for improved efficiency, while the door handles sit flush with the body. Aerodynamic wheel designs range from 17 to 19 inches.

Dimensionally, the Raval is comparable to the gasoline-powered Volkswagen Polo. The hatchback measures about 159 inches long, 70 inches wide, and 60 inches tall, with a 102-inch wheelbase. Cargo capacity is rated at roughly 15.6 cubic feet.

Inside, the cabin follows the minimalist design language seen in recent Volkswagen Group EVs. A 10.25-inch digital instrument display sits ahead of the driver, paired with a 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen angled toward the driver.
The infotainment system runs on Android-based software with access to an integrated app store. Physical buttons are limited: some are located on the three-spoke steering wheel, while others are replaced by touch controls and a voice assistant.
The gear selector is positioned on a steering-column stalk. The center console includes wireless smartphone charging and cup holders.
Base models feature upholstery made from recycled Dinamica fabric. Higher trims add vegan leather and a unique knitted 3D textile material. Available features include Smart Light ambient lighting that reacts to driving conditions, dual-zone Climatronic climate control, multiple USB-C ports, and a 12-speaker Sennheiser sound system that simulates the sound of a Formula E race car in Performance and Cupra driving modes.
Optional equipment includes sport bucket seats and a panoramic roof.

The Raval comes with an extensive safety suite, including seven airbags and a semi-autonomous driving system. The car can automatically stop if it detects driver incapacitation, assist with parking, drive on roads without clear lane markings, and even slow down automatically when approaching speed bumps.

Cupra engineers also revised the MEB+ platform to improve handling. The ride height has been lowered by about 0.6 inches, and the track widened by roughly 0.4 inches.
The suspension includes adaptive dampers with 15 adjustment levels, disc brakes on all four wheels, and an advanced regenerative braking system with one-pedal driving capability. Every Raval also features an E-launch start mode that adds digital animations and sound effects during acceleration.
