Dacia Sandero Redust: Carpoint Turns the Popular Hatchback Into a More Capable Off-Roader

The Dacia Sandero Stepway has never been marketed as a serious off-roader. Based on the standard Sandero hatchback, the Stepway version mainly distinguishes itself with extra ground clearance and protective body cladding, leaving true SUVs like the Duster in another league altogether.

But German tuning company Carpoint decided to push the model further. Its new Redust package transforms the compact crossover hatchback into a more adventure-ready vehicle designed for drivers who occasionally venture beyond paved roads.

The most significant changes involve the suspension. The Sandero Stepway Redust receives a suspension lift of 1.2 inches up front and 0.8 inch at the rear. It also rides on 16-inch off-road wheels wrapped in Roadcruza RA1100 AT all-terrain tires.

To enhance practicality, Carpoint added an expedition-style roof rack that expands the car’s cargo-carrying capabilities. As expected, all-wheel drive is not part of the package. That feature remains exclusive to Dacia's larger crossover models, including the Duster and Bigster.

Under the hood, the modified Sandero Stepway Redust is powered by a turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder Eco-G engine. The powerplant can run on either gasoline or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Output stands at 114 horsepower when using gasoline and increases to 122 hp when operating on gas. A manual transmission is the only gearbox available.

The Redust project highlights an interesting trend among buyers. For many customers, rugged styling and improved capability matter just as much as the presence of all-wheel drive. In everyday use, increased ground clearance, all-terrain tires and added utility are often enough to inspire confidence on dirt roads and during weekend adventures.

That helps explain why these kinds of packages are becoming increasingly popular, even for vehicles that were never designed for hardcore off-road use.

Demand in many markets is shifting away from traditional body-on-frame SUVs and toward affordable vehicles with better approach angles and greater versatility. The Dacia Sandero Redust demonstrates that, sometimes, a few well-thought-out upgrades are all it takes to give an existing model a much more adventurous character.
