Thor's 2027 Axis Class A Motorhomes Deliver Big RV Comfort in a Surprisingly Compact Package

Thor's updated 2027 Axis lineup packs premium Class A amenities into an easy-to-drive motorhome built for couples.

Thor's 2027 Axis Class A Motorhomes Deliver Big RV Comfort in a Surprisingly Compact Package

Thor Motor Coach has spent decades building motorhomes for every type of RV traveler, from luxury coaches loaded with high-end amenities to smaller, more affordable models designed for first-time buyers. The 2027 Axis lineup falls squarely into the second category, offering the comfort of a Class A motorhome without the intimidating size.

The Axis has become one of Thor's most popular entry-level Class A models thanks to its manageable dimensions, practical floorplans, and relatively accessible pricing. Instead of stretching beyond 35 feet like many traditional Class A coaches, the Axis focuses on delivering a comfortable driving experience while remaining easy to park, maneuver, and enjoy on cross-country adventures.

Thor lists the 2027 Axis with a starting MSRP of $164,640, but buyers will often find significantly lower prices at dealerships. Some dealers are already advertising new models for around $112,000, making the Axis one of the least expensive ways to step into the Class A segment.

The lineup offers four floorplans to fit different travel styles. The compact 24.1 measures just under 26 feet long, making it an attractive choice for RV owners who frequently visit national parks and campgrounds with tighter spaces. Larger models, including the 28.1, stretch to roughly 30.5 feet and provide additional living space while maintaining a manageable footprint.

Power comes from Ford's proven gasoline chassis, producing 325 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque. A TorqShift six-speed automatic transmission handles shifting duties, while MORryde suspension components help improve ride quality on long highway trips.

Inside the cockpit, drivers get a modern 14-inch touchscreen along with reclining, swivel leatherette captain's chairs. One of the Axis' standout features is its oversized panoramic windshield, which floods the cabin with natural light and offers exceptional visibility whether cruising scenic highways or navigating busy campgrounds.

Once parked and leveled, the interior reveals why the Axis has earned such a loyal following. Despite its relatively compact size, every floorplan is designed to maximize usable living space. Depending on the layout, the coach can comfortably accommodate up to five or six people with dedicated sleeping areas, a fully equipped kitchen, convertible seating, and a functional bathroom.

Several floorplans feature split twin beds in the rear that can quickly convert into one large king-style sleeping area, giving couples the flexibility to choose separate beds or a single oversized mattress. A hidden drop-down bed above the cab provides additional sleeping space for guests without permanently reducing living room space.

Thor also pays close attention to cabin ambiance. Integrated LED accent lighting runs throughout the ceiling and cabinetry, creating a modern look while adding practical illumination after dark.

The Axis is equipped for extended travel as well. Roof-mounted solar panels help keep the batteries charged during off-grid camping, while an onboard generator provides backup power when additional electricity is needed. Entertainment features include multiple televisions and Winegard connectivity, making it easy to stay connected on the road.

The featured 26.2 floorplan is designed with families in mind, but every model in the lineup works equally well for couples looking to spend weeks—or even months—traveling across the country.

Although the Axis isn't a true four-season motorhome from the factory, buyers can equip it with optional cold-weather upgrades for camping in below-freezing temperatures. As standard, it's best suited for three-season use.

Beyond the floorplans, buyers will also find exterior storage compartments, backup cameras, driver-assistance technology, generous fresh-water capacity, and durable interior materials designed to handle years of travel.

For shoppers considering their first Class A motorhome, the 2027 Thor Axis deserves a close look. Its combination of compact dimensions, practical layouts, modern technology, and competitive pricing makes it one of the strongest values currently available in the gas-powered Class A segment. Visiting a local Thor dealer remains the best way to experience the layout, seating, and overall livability before making a purchase.
