MG Challenges Jimny: Cyber X to Become the Electric Successor of the Iconic SUV
MG unveiled a concept that could radically change the perception of compact SUVs.
At the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed, MG presented the public with the Cyber X concept — an electric SUV combining a bold, angular design with elements reminiscent of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class and hidden lighting. This prototype has attracted attention not only for its unusual appearance but also because it may become the successor to the iconic Suzuki Jimny, albeit in an all-electric format. According to David Allison, a representative of MG's British office, the launch of a production version is possible within the next two years.
MG is clearly targeting a young audience, focusing on those who seek an urban SUV with character but are not ready to compromise on technology. The model is based on the E3 electric platform with cell-to-body technology — this construction allows not only reducing weight and improving layout but also significantly enhancing body rigidity, which is critical for off-road-capable vehicles. Despite its fully electric nature, Cyber X, according to brand representatives, will not lose its «genuine» off-road character.
The concept, apparently, is not yet the final version: the production vehicle will be slightly more compact and receive new software — the Zebra 3.0 operating system. It is important to note that the Cyber X will not just be another electric car in the MG lineup. It does not compete directly with models like the MG ZS EV — it is an independent product aimed at a different audience, possibly even those who have not previously considered the MG brand seriously.
If the project goes into production by 2027, Cyber X could occupy a niche where there are currently few options — the segment of compact electric SUVs with a rugged design and true off-road capabilities. Jimny, despite its popularity, remains solely gasoline-powered, and there is no fully electric alternative yet. MG seems intent on changing that situation.
