Sedan Geely Galaxy A7 enters the market: the size of a Toyota Camry, but much cheaper
Geely has launched a new large sedan for sale. The model is a plug-in hybrid, offered with two battery options to choose from.
The Geely Galaxy A7 sedan appeared on certification images back in May. The manufacturer published its official images in June, and in the same month, a presentation for local journalists was held in China. Now the company has released the price list of the novelty and opened order acceptance. Recall that at home, Galaxy is a separate family created specifically for electrified models. The A7 itself is a plug-in hybrid and occupies a niche between the hybrid four-doors Geely Galaxy L6 and Galaxy Starshine 8.

The front-wheel-drive Geely Galaxy A7 is based on the GEA platform, which underpins other models of the family. The sedan's length is 4918 mm, width - 1905 mm, height - 1495 mm, and wheelbase - 2845 mm. Thus, in terms of its dimensions, the Galaxy A7 is close to the local Toyota Camry. The trunk volume of the new Geely is 535 liters, and with the second-row seats folded, this figure increases to 988 liters.

Among the features of the A7's appearance are a smooth front panel (the radiator grille is integrated into the lower part of the bumper), headlights united by a luminous stripe, black and chrome decorative elements on the front bumper, and rear lights styled as a single plate. The sedan also features traditional, non-retractable door handles, which the Chinese specialized media particularly liked. Depending on the configuration, the model comes with 17-, 18- or 19-inch wheels.

In the cabin, there is a two-spoke steering wheel and a two-level tunnel, separate screens for the instrument panel and the multimedia system. On the tunnel, there is an «island» with buttons and a large knob that duplicates multimedia controls. Instead of the usual gear lever, there is a paddle shifter. Electronics are equipped with artificial intelligence (including driving assistants).

The EM-i powertrain includes a 1.5-liter four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine (112 hp) and a 238 hp electric motor. Currently, five configurations are available to customers. Two of them have an 8.5 kWh battery, and on electric power alone, such cars can travel 70 km on the Chinese CLTC cycle. Other versions have an 18.4 kWh battery; the electric range is 150 km. Moreover, Geely stated that the sedan's total range exceeds 2100 km.

The equipment list of the cheapest Geely Galaxy A7 includes: «leather» upholstery, the aforementioned screens (10.2 and 15.4 inches, respectively), face recognition system, 360-degree cameras, automatic parking, adaptive cruise control, automatic braking systems, lane-keeping, and blind-spot monitoring systems. The «middle» versions feature a panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, Flyme Sound audio system with 16 speakers (including a speaker in the driver's seat headrest). The top sedan additionally has a head-up display, wireless charging with cooling function, front seat massagers.

The current asking price for the Geely Galaxy A7 is 103,800 – 133,800 yuan, equivalent to approximately 14,500 – 18,700 US dollars. The price list is preliminary, so after the start of real sales, the actual prices are likely to be slightly lower.

For comparison, a hybrid Toyota Camry HEV (without the ability to charge from the power grid) in China costs at least 179,800 yuan (25,200 US dollars).
