Jeep Cherokee 2025 Debuts: First Look at the New SUV
The next generation of the iconic Jeep Cherokee has been revealed. What remains of the legendary SUV—and what makes the 2025 model stand out? Here’s an early look.
The all-new Jeep Cherokee has finally been unveiled, with full technical details now public. The new mid-size SUV comes with a hybrid powertrain—marking the return of a model that has been central to the North American market for decades.

Jeep CEO Bob Broderdorf said:
“The Jeep Cherokee will be competitively priced right at the heart of the largest vehicle segment and fits perfectly between the Jeep Compass and Jeep Grand Cherokee in our winning core lineup.”
The hybrid setup pairs a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gas engine with two electric motors. One motor acts as a generator to supply power to a small 1-kWh battery, while the second motor drives the wheels directly.

In the Cherokee, the system delivers all-wheel drive, with a peak output of 210 horsepower and 229 lb-ft of torque. Jeep claims fuel economy below 44 mpg (5.4 L/100 km) and a combined driving range of about 500 miles (800 km).
At the rear, the SUV features square taillights similar to those on the latest Jeep Compass. The wide rear window, inset into the tailgate, may even be a nod to the original Cherokee of the 1970s.

Up front, the design language also draws heavily from the new Compass, with a vertical stance, Jeep’s signature seven-slot grille, a flat hood, squared-off wheel arches, and an overall boxier body shape. To signal its more premium positioning, the new Cherokee comes with flush-mounted door handles and side mirrors with integrated cameras.

Many styling cues echo the second-generation Jeep Cherokee—better known as the XJ—from the 1980s. That model was one of the world’s first compact SUVs and arguably the most influential vehicle in the brand’s history, making it clear why the sixth-generation Cherokee takes inspiration from it.
Inside, the SUV offers a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch central touchscreen for infotainment. Climate control is managed through touch-sensitive controls. Jeep also promises a 30% increase in cabin space and a larger cargo area compared with the previous generation.
