Hundreds of Stolen Vehicles Seized in Michigan Smuggling Ring Bust

Court documents show the criminal operation ran from July 2023 through August 2025.

Hundreds of Stolen Vehicles Seized in Michigan Smuggling Ring Bust

Eight men from Southeast Michigan have been charged in connection with an organized crime ring involving auto theft and international smuggling. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the suspects targeted high-end vehicles with plans to ship them overseas. If convicted, they face up to 10 years in prison.

Prosecutors say the scheme lasted from July 2023 to August 2025. Stolen vehicles were gathered at commercial and industrial sites, packed into shipping containers, and transported to ports for export abroad. Those charged include Haidar Al Haidari, Karar Alnakkash, Abbas Al Otman, Mohammed Al Hilo, Mustafa Al Fetlawi, Terrill Davis, David Rochinski Williams, and Mohammed Al Abboudi.

Authorities say more than 350 stolen vehicles were recovered during the investigation.

“In a state like Michigan, where cars are not just a means of transportation but part of the culture, these thefts affect everyone,” said Matthew Stentz, Acting Special Agent in Charge for ICE Homeland Security Investigations in Detroit.

While the Justice Department did not specify which models were stolen, several outlets report the list included BMW X5s, Dodge Durangos, Dodge Rams, Range Rovers, Ford Broncos, Chevrolet Camaros, and more. Video evidence tied to the case also showed Cadillac Escalades, Chevrolet Corvettes, and at least two Ram TRX trucks.

The case highlights the scale of organized auto theft operations, many of which have international reach. Federal and local cooperation not only helped dismantle the smuggling network but also returned hundreds of cars to their rightful owners. Officials say the investigation underscores the need for stronger security and monitoring in shipping and export logistics to prevent future trafficking attempts.
