Ford GT Sets Record as Fastest Gas-Powered Sports Car on Famous Track

The fourth-generation Ford GT comes equipped with a 3.8-liter gasoline V6 engine producing around 820 horsepower. The car was driven on the legendary Nürburgring track by Ford Racing driver Frédéric Vervisch, a two-time winner of the Nürburgring 24 Hours.

He completed a full lap in 6 minutes and 15.977 seconds, making the American supercar the fastest production-based vehicle powered solely by an internal combustion engine.

In the overall standings, the Ford GT was only beaten by the hybrid Porsche 919 Evo, which posted a lap time of 5 minutes and 19 seconds, and the fully electric Volkswagen ID.R, which completed the circuit in 6 minutes and 5 seconds.

Both of those vehicles, however, are purpose-built prototypes, while the American supercar was produced in a limited run of just 67 units.

The Ford GT Mk IV also outpaced the hybrid hypercar Mercedes-AMG One as well as high-performance electric prototypes such as the Yangwang U9 Xtreme and Xiaomi SU7 Ultra.
