Next-Generation Lexus UX to Grow in Size and Power as New Details Surface
Lexus is reportedly developing an all-new UX with a 230-horsepower hybrid powertrain and an EV offering up to 391 miles of range.
According to reports from Japan, Lexus is developing a second-generation version of its compact UX crossover. The redesigned model is expected to be larger than its predecessor, feature an all-new exterior and interior, and be offered with both hybrid and fully electric powertrains.
The Lexus UX first arrived for the 2019 model year after making its global debut in 2018. It served as the brand’s smallest crossover until the introduction of the LBX and quickly became one of Lexus’ best-selling global models thanks to its hybrid efficiency and relatively attainable pricing.

Japanese media now reports that Lexus could unveil the next-generation UX by the end of next year. The current model appears to be entering the final stage of its production cycle, a theory supported by the recent launch of yet another special edition.
The new UX is reportedly being developed alongside the latest-generation Toyota C-HR sold in Europe. However, the crossover is expected to ride on a new platform designed to support both hybrid and battery-electric variants.
Early reports suggest the new model will grow in every major dimension. It is expected to measure about 177.2 inches long, 72.4 inches wide, and 63.0 inches tall, with a wheelbase of approximately 106.3 inches. The larger footprint should provide a roomier cabin, particularly for rear-seat passengers.
Styling is expected to follow Lexus’ latest design language. The crossover is rumored to feature a redesigned frameless spindle grille, updated LED lighting, and a more aggressive front fascia with larger vertical air intakes.
The side profile is also expected to look sportier thanks to revised body lines, while the rear is likely to retain the full-width LED light bar that has become a signature design element for recent Lexus models.
Inside, the cabin is expected to receive a significant overhaul. Japanese reports claim the new UX will feature a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster paired with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system

The crossover could also introduce Toyota’s next-generation Arene OS software platform. The system is expected to enable faster feature rollouts, improve the vehicle’s electronic systems, and support over-the-air software updates.
Under the hood, the hybrid model is rumored to use a new 1.5-liter gasoline engine paired with an electrified system producing a combined output of approximately 230 horsepower.
A fully electric UX is also reportedly in development. According to Japanese media, buyers will have a choice between a single-motor front-wheel-drive version and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive model. Output could reach as much as 300 horsepower, while the estimated driving range is expected to be up to 391 miles on a full charge.
Lexus has not officially confirmed any of the reported specifications or the vehicle’s launch timeline, so all of these details should be considered preliminary until the automaker makes a formal announcement.
