Bold Bet on Color: Ford Brings Bright Cars Back Into Fashion

Ford has unveiled a new signature paint, Orange Fury, for its 2026 model-year vehicles.

Bold Bet on Color: Ford Brings Bright Cars Back Into Fashion

Despite the sea of gray, black, and white cars that dominate American roads, Ford is choosing to stand out. The automaker has officially introduced Orange Fury Metallic Tri-Coat, a rich yellow-orange hue with a three-layer finish that will gradually roll out across its 2026 lineup.

The timing is notable. Around the same period, coatings giant Axalta named Solar Boost its Automotive Color of the Year for 2026. Described as bold and energetic, Solar Boost features subtle “champagne-like” highlights and is meant to evoke sunrise and sunset. Visually and emotionally, it’s very close to Ford’s Orange Fury, although Ford’s take leans slightly more toward yellow.

According to Axalta, vehicle color has a direct impact on how a car is perceived—affecting impressions of safety, sportiness, prestige, and even resale value. The company’s research shows that more than 80 percent of buyers consider color an important factor when choosing a vehicle, helping explain the renewed interest in expressive shades over the usual neutral palette.

Ford has confirmed that Orange Fury Metallic Tri-Coat will be available on several key 2026 models, including the Bronco Sport, Maverick, and Mustang. The vivid metallic finish is designed to highlight each vehicle’s personality and make it more noticeable in traffic, whether it’s a crossover, a pickup, or a sports car.

There is, however, a premium for making that statement. Orange Fury sits at the top end of Ford’s paint options and carries a $995 price tag, underscoring its role as a design accent rather than a mass-market color.

The arrival of Orange Fury sends a clear signal: automakers may be growing tired of safe, anonymous colors, and buyers are increasingly willing to pay extra for emotion, character, and individuality.
