Ram Recalls 291,664 ProMaster Vans Over Electrical Concern
A massive recall affects nearly 291,664 Ram ProMaster vans from the 2018-2026 model years. Due to an electrical fault, the radiator fan circuit can overheat, increasing the risk of a fire. The manufacturer is still developing a fix for the problem.
Not to be confused with the Fiat Doblo-twinned ProMaster City, the ProMaster has been hit with a massive recall. According to FCA US LLC, the electrical circuit for the radiator fan may overheat, increasing the risk of a fire.
This recall affects 291,664 examples of the ProMaster, namely 2018 through 2026 models produced from July 20, 2017 through October 7, 2025. The Stellantis-controlled Ram truck brand assembles the ProMaster for North America in Mexico.
According to recall documents published on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's website, demanding fleet duty cycles may cause premature bearing wear, a condition that leads to high current draw. Combined with inadequate fuse protection on the 400-watt radiator fan circuit, a vehicle fire cannot be ruled out.

Germany-based Mahle Thermal and Fluid Systems is listed as the supplier of the radiator fan module, which is priced at $825 on the Mopar eStore at press time. FCA US LLC started looking into this matter in July 2025, prompted by a trend in fires originating from the ProMaster's radiator fan module.
Recovered parts were analyzed, with the automaker confirming signs of premature bearing wear in the failed motors. Additional testing further confirmed that the current fuse size of the 400-watt circuitry doesn't protect the circuit from high current draw. So far, FCA US LLC is aware of 39 customer assistance records and complaints related to said concern.
The reports were filed with Ram between January 15, 2020 and September 29, 2025. Thankfully for everyone, FCA US LLC is not aware of any injuries potentially related to the described problem. Dealers in the US will be notified on October 30, 2025, yet Ram hasn't come up with a remedy just yet.
Interim owner notifications will be mailed between November 20, 2025 and November 26, 2025, and with a bit of luck, a remedy might be decided by then. Affected vehicle identification numbers will become searchable on Mopar's website by October 30, 2025. With the ProMaster hailing from the Saltillo van plant in Mexico, affected VINs all start with 3.

The ProMaster cargo and passenger vans moved 45,296 units in the first nine months of 2025, up 10 percent from the 41,003 reported between January 2024 and September 2024. To understand how poor those sales are, bear in mind that Ford's Q3 2025 report reads 42,503 deliveries for the Transit in the third quarter alone. And that's not all, though.
Remember the body-on-frame Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana? Despite being very old by design, they sold 43,637 and 17,269 units in the first three quarters of 2025. Part of the reason why the ProMaster doesn't sell as well is poor reliability and customer service, which are big no-nos for fleet operators.
Currently available to configure for the 2026 model year, the Ram ProMaster carries a starting price of $43,605 for the Tradesman 1500 cargo van with the low roof and 118-inch wheelbase. An electric version of the ProMaster is available as well, though prices kick off at $56,495 for the zero-emission cargo van.
