New BMW iX3 Stuns With a 500-Mile Range and More Affordable Trims on the Way

Premium automakers have long followed a familiar playbook: launch a model with the most expensive, feature-packed, high-performance trim first. The new BMW iX3 is no exception. Its price is far from budget-friendly, yet the EV crossover has surprised even BMW’s own team in Germany with how warmly it’s been received.

BMW executives admit they didn’t expect such an enthusiastic response to the new-generation iX3, which now boasts one of the strongest ranges in its class. Even so, the company had prepared carefully—the production run of the current generation is already mapped out almost through the end of 2026.

Anyone wanting a closer look can find detailed reviews that break down its capabilities from every angle. Mass production is underway, and first deliveries are slated for next spring. High demand could still cause slight delays.

For now, the lineup consists of a single version: the deliX3 50 xDrive. It uses a pair of electric motors for all-wheel drive and delivers 469 hp. That output is more than enough for any road situation, but the real headline is the range—about 500 miles (805 km) on a single charge under the WLTP cycle.

BMW knows not everyone needs the top-tier trim, so new iX3 variants are on the books for 2026. A rear-wheel-drive deliX3 40 will debut for European customers late next year, expected to make around 326 hp. The focus there is on a lower price point and improved efficiency.

Pricing estimates place the new iX3 40 at roughly $69,000 (converted from €60,000), while a dual-motor version with shorter range should land near $74,500 (from €65,000). The current flagship sits just under $80,500 (nearly €70,000).

Production of the base rear-drive models begins in July 2026, followed four months later by the refreshed all-wheel-drive iX3. Both upcoming versions—the iX3 40 and 40 xDrive—are expected to use smaller lithium-ion battery packs than the 108.7-kWh unit in the 50 xDrive, yet each should still deliver well over 370 miles of range on a single charge.
