Power Up Anywhere: New Fords Could Charge Your Gear Right From the Trunk

Ford Motor Company has filed a patent outlining an original concept for integrated electric accessory panels designed for upcoming generations of its vehicles.

According to the newly published patent, Ford proposes using a system of modular metal plates equipped with dedicated power connectors. This setup would let owners mount various tools and devices directly inside the vehicle’s bed or cargo area, securing them to the panels and powering them through built-in electrical contacts.

The solution is aimed at construction professionals, tradespeople, and anyone who frequently works far from fixed power sources.

These panels would keep equipment firmly in place while delivering steady power, effectively turning the vehicle into a mobile power station and making it easier and more convenient to operate tools even when no permanent electricity supply is available.
