Next-Gen BMW X5 (G65) Set for a Radical Redesign: Unofficial Renderings Surface

The BMW X5 made its debut in the late 1990s. Since then, the Bavarian brand’s best-selling SUV has gone through four generations, with the current model on sale globally since 2018.

The X5 received a mid-cycle update in 2023, but BMW is already preparing a fully redesigned version. The upcoming generation, known internally as the G65, is expected to break sharply with past design traditions—at least when it comes to styling.

Early test prototypes of the new X5 G65 have already been spotted on public roads. Using those spy shots as a reference, digital artist AutoYa created a series of renderings that preview what the next iteration of BMW’s popular SUV could look like.

According to the artist, the new X5 will undergo dramatic changes both outside and inside the cabin.

The exterior design is rumored to draw heavily from BMW’s Neue Klasse concept. If that proves accurate, the SUV could feature slimmer, more compact kidney grilles, headlights with distinctive LED light signatures, a more complex front bumper design, and flush-style electronic door handles positioned along the beltline.

Inside, the revamped X5 is expected to mirror the design direction introduced in the new electric iX3. Reports suggest the flagship SUV will adopt a similarly shaped oval steering wheel, a polygonal infotainment display that appears to float above the dashboard, and a uniquely styled electronic gear selector. The digital instrument cluster is also expected to span a wide format and sit closer to the windshield.

With the switch to BMW’s new Neue Klasse platform, the next-generation X5 is slated to offer a broad range of powertrains. Buyers can reportedly expect traditional gasoline engines, hybrid setups, and fully electric versions. Specific output figures have not yet been disclosed.

BMW is expected to officially unveil the new X5 before the end of the year.
