Prototype of the 2027 BMW X7 Spotted in Testing — The SUV Is Getting Automatic Doors
The refreshed X7 will also add new comfort features, including ventilated and massaging rear seats.
BMWBlog has published real-world photos of the next-generation BMW X7 undergoing road tests in Europe. Production is expected to begin in August 2027, with a public debut likely even earlier. The model will carry the factory code G67 and introduce a completely new exterior design along with upgraded tech and comfort features.
One of the headline updates is that soft-close doors will become standard across the entire lineup. BMW is also preparing fully automatic doors that can open and close at the touch of a button from inside the cabin.

The new X7 is expected to address several shortcomings of the current G07 generation as well. That includes finally offering ventilated and massaging rear seats — though it’s not yet clear whether these features will be reserved for higher trims or offered as standalone options. An upgraded rear-seat entertainment system with two larger displays is also in development.

The company is additionally considering installing BMW’s 31.3-inch 8K theater screen. Since even the long-wheelbase 5 Series already offers it, integrating the panel into the X7 seems like a natural next step.

The upcoming generation will be available in both two-row and three-row configurations. The three-row version will offer either six or seven seats. However, the Alpina variant (G69) may skip the third row entirely — even as an option — to maximize second-row comfort.
