Voyah Taishan 8 Debuts: Five-Seat Hybrid SUV with Roof-Mounted LiDAR and 657 hp

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has published the first official data on the Voyah Taishan 8. The model is the second entry in the Taishan lineup from premium brand Voyah, a division of Dongfeng Motor, and serves as a more compact five-seat alternative to the previously revealed six-seat Taishan flagship. The newcomer pairs a hybrid powertrain with advanced tech features, including a LiDAR unit that rises from the roofline.

The Taishan 8 measures about 204.7 inches long, 79.7 inches wide, and 71.4 inches tall, riding on a 121.7-inch wheelbase—slightly smaller than its larger sibling. Its exterior stays true to Voyah’s signature look, featuring a “waterfall” grille, semi-hidden door handles, and a retractable LiDAR module. Available extras include power-deploying side steps, side-mounted radars, and multiple wheel and badge designs.

The SUV will be sold in two main configurations that differ primarily in output.

Lower-output version:

  • Dual electric motors: 150 kW + 215 kW (combined 365 kW / approx. 496 hp)
  • Gas engine: 110 kW (148 hp)
  • Battery: LFP pack supplied by Xinwangda
  • Curb weight: about 6,095 lb

Higher-output version:

  • Dual electric motors: 150 kW + 230 kW (combined 380 kW / approx. 510 hp)
  • Gas engine: 110 kW
  • Total hybrid system output: 490 kW (roughly 657 hp)
  • Battery: ternary-lithium pack from the CATL–FAW joint venture
  • Curb weight: 6,150–6,205 lb depending on whether the SUV is fitted with 21- or 22-inch wheels
  • Top speed: about 124 mph

Official documentation doesn’t specify battery capacity or driving range. Still, the listed fuel-consumption figures—0.34 to 0.38 liters per 100 km under the WLTC cycle (equivalent to an extremely low approximately 690–770 mpg-equivalent in U.S. terms)—suggest the model should deliver substantial all-electric and hybrid range once final specs are released.
