Epic Find: 1974 Pontiac Firebird With 9,400 Miles — original car
The car is a true survivor and has never been altered or restored. If you wonder how this is possible after all these years, the answer is simple.
Just 9,422 original miles show on the odometer of this 1974 Pontiac Firebird, and the number tells an unusual story. The car is a true survivor that has never been restored or modified. Its original owner bought it new, drove it sparingly for about a year, and then passed away in 1975. With so little use, the Firebird accumulated fewer than 10,000 miles before being placed into storage by the family, where it remained for decades.

In 1974, the Firebird lineup enjoyed a strong year, with overall sales jumping by roughly 60%. Pontiac offered four versions: the base Firebird, Esprit, Formula, and the range-topping Trans Am. The base model was the most affordable at $3,335, while the Trans Am stood at the top with a starting price of $4,446 due to its generous standard equipment, including dual exhausts, spoilers, upgraded gauges, bucket seats, and the signature shaker hood.

The base Firebird proved to be the most popular, selling more than 26,000 units. The Trans Am, while pricier, sold just over 10,000 examples but would go on to dominate the lineup by the end of the decade. Most Firebirds were equipped with automatic transmissions, with manuals being relatively rare.

This particular car isn’t rare because of its drivetrain—it has an automatic transmission—but because of its condition and incredibly low mileage. It remains fully original, right down to the factory brakes, spare tire, and even the Goodyear Polyglass tires. The interior is described by the seller as immaculate and looks nearly new in photos, which isn’t surprising given how little the car was driven.

The exterior is solid and rust-free, though the original lacquer paint shows its age with some cracking. A third-party inspection is recommended to fully assess the car. Under the hood sits a modest 250-cubic-inch inline-six paired with a Turbo 350 automatic. While not the most desirable setup, it made sense for a buyer who wanted an efficient daily driver.

The Firebird is currently located in Winnipeg, Canada, which may complicate an in-person visit for U.S. buyers. The seller is asking around $26,000 and is open to offers on eBay. With growing interest and a listing set to expire later this month, this low-mileage Firebird time capsule is unlikely to stay available for long.
