Where There Used to Be Keys, There’s Now Just a Tap: Ford Moves Car Controls to Your Smartphone

Ford has rolled out an updated mobile app — now simpler, faster, and more connected than ever.

Where There Used to Be Keys, There’s Now Just a Tap: Ford Moves Car Controls to Your Smartphone

Ford has unveiled a completely redesigned mobile app, now simply called “Ford” instead of FordPass. The new app features a refreshed interface, improved tools for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicle owners, and an upgraded notification system.

The most notable addition is the new Climate section, which lets users quickly adjust cabin temperature, activate seat or steering-wheel heating — all directly from the home screen. The Energy tab now displays detailed charging data, including current battery level, charging schedule, and departure time.

For drivers managing multiple vehicles, the app now allows users to assign custom names to each car for easier control and identification. Notifications have also been reworked: important alerts now appear at the top of the list, improving both usability and safety.

The updated app is already available worldwide. Version 6.0.0 launched for iOS (with 6.1.0 adding bug fixes), while the Android update rolled out on October 23.

All the familiar FordPass features remain: remote lock and unlock via widgets, Apple Watch support, scheduled updates, and even a dark mode — though, for now, that’s exclusive to iPhone users.
