Extreme Shelby GT350/TA Track-Focused Supercar Unveiled

Shelby American has unveiled its latest project based on the current-generation Ford Mustang coupe. The result is the Shelby GT350/TA, a track-focused supercar created to mark the 60th anniversary of the legendary Trans-Am racing series and aimed squarely at track-day enthusiasts. Despite its extreme nature, the car is fully street legal.

The standard Shelby GT350 received extensive modifications to reduce weight and improve performance. Exterior changes include a new hood with a carbon-fiber air intake and the Shelby Ghost graphic, a carbon-fiber aerodynamic package with a front splitter and side skirts, and an adjustable rear wing. At the back, the car also features a ducktail-style spoiler and a massive diffuser. Additional details include exclusive graphics, carbon-fiber mirror caps, a revised grille, and Forgeline wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero tires.

The interior has also been upgraded with leather seats featuring Shelby embroidery, carbon-fiber trim, custom door sill plates, a commemorative plaque, and a four-point chromoly steel roll cage.

Power comes from a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 paired with a quad-exit exhaust system. The engine also benefits from a bespoke ECU tune and an upgraded cooling system. As a result, output from the supercharged V8 exceeds 842 horsepower. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission with a short-throw shifter.

The suspension has been extensively reworked as well, featuring adjustable racing coilovers and dampers with remote reservoirs. Reinforced half-shafts and other upgraded components have been added, including stiffer anti-roll bars and a strengthened rear differential. Braking is handled by a heavy-duty Alcon brake system.

Production of the Shelby GT350/TA will take place in Michigan with the involvement of Turn Key Automotive. Just 70 examples will be built, each priced at $220,000—around $105,000 less than Ford’s factory-built extreme Mustang GTD.
