Some 2024–2025 Ford and Lincoln Models Will Lose Amazon Alexa
The final note for Alexa: Ford and Lincoln move away from the virtual assistant.
Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant first appeared on Ford and Lincoln vehicles back in 2017, when drivers could control certain vehicle functions by connecting a smartphone with Alexa support.
Some 2024–2025 model-year vehicles from Ford and Lincoln will soon lose compatibility with Amazon Alexa as the automaker completes its full transition to Google’s voice assistant, Google Assistant.
Starting in 2017, Alexa allowed Ford and Lincoln owners to interact with their vehicles through a smartphone-based connection. Beginning in 2021, the assistant took a step forward, becoming directly integrated into the vehicles’ built-in infotainment systems rather than relying solely on a phone connection.
Now, Ford has announced that earlier this year, Amazon Alexa functionality will be removed from all 2024–2025 Ford and Lincoln vehicles equipped with the Ford or Lincoln Digital Experience software. The move comes as part of what the company describes as the “end of support for Alexa services across all Ford/Lincoln Digital Experience vehicles.”
As a result, Alexa can no longer be downloaded or used on these models, having been fully replaced by Google Assistant as the default voice assistant.
