Mercedes to End EQE Production: What Awaits German EV Fans After 2026
German auto giant Mercedes-Benz has decided to discontinue its EQE sedan and SUV models starting in 2026.
Mercedes-Benz has confirmed plans to phase out production of its EQE electric sedan and crossover in 2026. According to industry publication Autocar, the move is tied to a restructuring of the company’s EV lineup and the upcoming launch of next-generation electric versions of the C-Class and GLC. The current EQE models, built in both Germany and the U.S., will give way to more advanced vehicles based on the MB.EA-M platform, featuring 800-volt architecture.
While Mercedes had considered updating the EQE with 800-volt technology and new motors, the company has shifted its focus toward future models. The all-electric C-Class EQ, slated for 2026, will offer comparable technology such as air suspension and rear-axle steering. The GLC EQ, set to debut at the Munich Auto Show, will emphasize practicality with a 570-liter trunk and an additional 128-liter front compartment — both larger than what the current EQE SUV provides.
Mercedes has not officially confirmed the phase-out, but industry insiders report that the EQE’s successor, the E-Class EQ, is already in development and scheduled for release in 2027. Like the upcoming C-Class EQ and GLC EQ, it will ride on the new MB.EA-M platform.
In short, while the EQE is being retired, Mercedes is not pulling back from the EV market — instead, the brand is doubling down on more modern and technologically advanced offerings.
