Ford recalling Bronco and Edge SUVs due to rearview camera fault

Ford Motor Company is recalling almost 850,000 Bronco and Edge models due to a fault that can prevent the rearview camera image from displaying, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recall affects certain 2021-26 Broncos and 2021-24 Edge SUVs. Ford was not aware of any accident or injury reports related to the problem, the NHTSA reported.

On affected vehicles, the accessory protocol interface module can overheat and shut down for up to five minutes, the agency reported. Drivers then lose the ability to display the rearview camera image while in reverse gear, increasing the danger of a crash, the NHTSA reported.

Dealers will update the software for free, the agency reported. Owner notification letters are to be mailed on March 30.

Last year, Ford issued two recalls for more than 148,000 vehicles.

One recall was due to a fluid leak that could reduce braking performance and increase stopping distance for 123,611 vehicles, the NHTSA reported. The recall affected certain 2017-18 Ford F-150, Expedition and Lincoln Navigator models.
