American Brand Named Most Reliable Mass-Market Automaker

New reliability report names an unexpected American brand as the most dependable mainstream automaker.

American Brand Named Most Reliable Mass-Market Automaker

Reliability remains one of the most important factors for drivers shopping for a new vehicle. Even brand-new models can develop problems surprisingly early, which is why long-term dependability plays such a big role in buying decisions.

In its latest research, analysts at J.D. Power identified the brands building the most reliable vehicles on the market. One result stood out immediately: the top brand in the mass-market category wasn’t Toyota.

According to the study, the overall reliability leader for 2026 is Lexus. The luxury brand, which belongs to the Toyota Group, achieved the best results across the industry.

When it comes to mainstream, non-luxury vehicles, however, the top position went to Buick. The American automaker, part of General Motors, was recognized as the most reliable mass-market brand in the report.

Researchers noted that Buick vehicles are built at several manufacturing plants around the world. Production takes place in multiple countries, including the United States and China.

The study also measured how many problems owners reported. On average, Buick vehicles experienced about 160 issues per 100 cars, which is considered a strong result compared with many competing brands.

For comparison, the brand that finished at the bottom of the ranking—Volkswagen—recorded more than 300 reported problems per 100 vehicles, almost double Buick’s figure.

Earlier, automotive experts also highlighted several new crossovers that offer strong value for buyers. Among the recommended models were the Audi Q6 e-tron, Hyundai Palisade Hybrid, and Toyota RAV4.

Experts also suggested shoppers consider the Honda CR-V and Subaru Forester, both of which remain among the most competitive options in their segments.
