Pre-production Audi crossover shown online — a potential competitor to the BMW X7
Audi has taken a nearly production-ready full-size crossover, which will be labeled as the Q9, out for testing.
Audi is making a serious bid for the full-size crossover segment: a prototype has been spotted that is expected to become the new Q9 model. This time, it's not just a “test mule,” but an almost production version, close to the final look.
The photos show that the car has a full brand-specific radiator grille with 16 vertical slats and optics that, apparently, will go into production.

The front bumper and rear lights are no longer camouflaged — their style refers to the fresh Audi A6, and these elements will form the recognizable look of the new flagship, distinguishing it from the already familiar Q7.
Under the hood, modern powertrains are expected, including “mild” and plug-in hybrids. For example, it is said to include a three-liter V6 with 367 horsepower and a two-liter engine in a hybrid system. The platform is presumably the new PPC, designed for both petrol and diesel engines, with accommodation for electrification.

The official premiere of the Q9 has not yet been announced, but given the stage of prototype preparation, it can be expected to debut soon. Audi clearly intends to push the BMW X7 and Mercedes GLS aside by offering its own interpretation of the large premium crossover class.
