Tesla Extends Warranty on Costly Model S and Model X Components to Seven Years

Peace of mind for 70,000 miles: Here’s how Tesla’s new seven-year warranty works.

Tesla Extends Warranty on Costly Model S and Model X Components to Seven Years

Updated Tesla documents reveal a new extended warranty option covering expensive powertrain components for the Model S and Model X. Buyers of new Teslas can now count on protection for key parts for seven years or 70,000 miles—well beyond the previous four-year limit. The program applies not only in California but across all of North America.

The extended coverage includes repairs to critical systems such as the power conversion system (PCS), high-voltage controllers, fast-charging contactors, half-shafts, radiators, wiring harnesses, and other pricey components. The PCS is especially important—it manages charging, and a failure can completely disable the vehicle.

Tesla’s existing eight-year battery and drive unit coverage remains unchanged. However, the Cybertruck is not yet part of the extended warranty program, likely due to its unique design and early production stage. Tesla may revisit this in the future.

The longer warranty terms make sense amid rising auto loan durations. Many buyers are still paying off their vehicles long after the standard warranty expires. This new option gives owners greater peace of mind for most of their loan period—making Tesla’s electric vehicles even more attractive purchases.
