Gotion Begins Pilot Production of Solid-State Batteries and Launches 2 GW Line Project
Chinese battery maker Gotion High-Tech, backed by Volkswagen, has announced the start of pilot production for its own solid-state battery.
Chinese battery manufacturer Gotion High-Tech, supported by Volkswagen, has begun pilot production of its self-developed Jinshi solid-state battery and initiated the design of a 2 GW production line.
The battery — developed over eight years — uses a sulfide-based electrolyte and innovative materials, including electrolyte micro-particles, ultra-thin crystalline cathodes, and three-dimensional silicon anodes. The energy density reaches 350 Wh/kg, about 40% higher than that of conventional lithium-ion batteries.
The 0.2 GW pilot line features 100% domestically sourced equipment and maintains a 90% stable yield rate. After a year of durability testing, the cell capacity increased by 150%. The battery is designed for over 3,000 charge cycles and an estimated lifespan of around one million kilometers, operating in temperatures ranging from –20°C to 85°C.
Mass production is planned for 2030, with limited integration into vehicles expected by 2027. Gotion is also partnering with Chinese eVTOL manufacturer EHang to explore aviation applications for its solid-state battery technology.
