Genesis Recalls Nearly 84,000 Vehicles Over Dashboard Button Software Glitch

Genesis has announced a recall of 83,877 vehicles in the United States due to a software flaw that can cause the digital instrument cluster and infotainment screen to suddenly go dark while the vehicle is in motion. The issue affects 2025–2026 model-year vehicles and is linked to the operation of AM, FM, and HD Radio.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), under certain conditions the system may reboot or temporarily shut down for up to 10 seconds. During that time, drivers lose access to critical information such as vehicle speed, fuel or battery charge level, and warning indicators.

The root cause is a logic error in the software: analog and HD radio data are written to the same memory location due to duplicate processing routines. This can create a conflict that overwrites data and disrupts the display.

The recall covers the following models:

  • Genesis G80 (2025–2026)
  • Genesis G80 Electrified (2026)
  • Genesis GV60 (2026)
  • Genesis GV70 and GV70 Electrified (2026)
  • Genesis GV80 (2025–2026)

Despite 237 reported incidents, Genesis says there have been no crashes or injuries linked to the issue.

A software update is expected to be released in early to mid-March. Owners will be able to receive the fix either at a dealership or via over-the-air (OTA) updates, depending on vehicle capability.

Until the patch is available, Genesis recommends temporarily disabling the HD Radio function. The recall highlights how even seemingly minor features like radio software can have serious safety implications in modern, software-dependent vehicles.
