Budget electric vehicle brand Nio Firefly may appear in the UK in the fall of 2025
Nio's budget sub-brand of electric vehicles — Firefly — will debut in the UK in October 2025.
The first versions of the Firefly hatchback with right-hand drive have already been launched into production. The model aims to compete with the Volkswagen ID.2 and the revived Renault 5 in the growing segment of compact electric vehicles in Europe.
Firefly was introduced in China in April 2025 and became Nio's third brand and the first to enter the small electric vehicle market. The car, bearing the same name as the brand, is part of Nio's sales, delivery, and after-sales service network.

The starting price of Firefly is 119,800 yuan (about $16,500). The electric vehicle is aimed at buyers looking for affordable but high-tech vehicles.
Three round LED rings form the signature 'triple' headlight at the front and rear of the car

With dimensions of 4003/1781/1557 mm and a wheelbase of 2615 mm, the car remains compact but has a practical front trunk with a capacity of 92 liters. It is equipped with a drainage system and a multi-level storage system.
Other design features include darkened A and B pillars, two-tone 18-inch alloy wheels, and a roof spoiler that harmoniously fits into the playful rear design.

The Firefly interior features a two-spoke multifunction steering wheel, a floating central screen, and a fully digital instrument panel. Special attention is paid to safety, with the interior materials certified according to infant care standards.
Customers can choose one of four colors and two types of upholstery

Firefly is equipped with a single rear-mounted engine with 141 hp. The CLTC standard range is up to 260 miles (about 418 km).
Distinctive features include a turning radius of 4.7 meters, the best in its class, and the ability for full-scenario automatic parking.

In May, the first month of Firefly sales, 3,680 units were sold, contributing to a 13.1% increase in Nio's sales compared to the same period last year. Total deliveries exceeded 3,900 units.
Nio President Qin Lihong confirmed at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show that right-hand-drive Firefly models targeted at the UK, one of the brand's key European markets, are under development. The exact launch date has not yet been announced, but Nio is actively preparing for its entry into the UK market. More detailed information is expected soon.

The UK is among 16 global markets Nio plans to enter this year, including seven European countries: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Hungary, Luxembourg, Poland, and Romania.
Besides Firefly, Nio will introduce other models in the European market: the EL6 and EL8 SUVs (sold in China as ES6 and ES8), the ET5 sedan, and the ET5 Touring wagon.

Additionally, Nio is considering bringing the coupe-style SUV Onvo L60 to the UK market, which will compete with the Tesla Model Y.

Nio's Executive Vice President for Product Eric Yu highlighted that the absence of tariffs on electric vehicle imports from China to the UK is a strategic advantage compared to the 31% import duties currently applied in the EU.
In the coming weeks, new announcements about Nio's European expansion are expected.
