New Generation Tesla Model Y Performance 2026: 'Spy' Photos of the Car

American automaker Tesla is preparing to release a new generation of the high-performance version of the Tesla Model Y Performance, model year 2026.

New Generation Tesla Model Y Performance 2026: 'Spy' Photos of the Car

Tesla is working on a new version of the Model Y in the Performance trim. A corresponding camouflaged prototype was spotted during testing at the Nürburgring.

The car is clearly based on the updated version "Juniper", but it is equipped with additional technical elements that go beyond the standard model.

The prototype is equipped with Pirelli P Zero E tires — these are ultra-sport tires, similar to those used on the Model 3 Performance. The rims resemble the "Arachnid" wheel design from the Model S Plaid. A lowered ground clearance is noticeable — the car is significantly lower than standard versions of the Model Y, indicating a modified suspension, likely with adaptive dampers similar to the junior Performance version.

At the rear, there is a spoiler visually similar to the current Performance version. The changes at the front are minimal, although a unique bumper is possible for the production version. The braking system is equipped with large red calipers — a characteristic feature of Tesla's Performance and Plaid models. Whether these components are final is still unknown — in previous prototypes, Tesla used visual covers.

Drive and Performance

Official power data hasn't been published yet. The current Model Y Performance develops 539 hp. It's expected that Tesla will maintain this level or slightly increase it. The Model 3 Performance uses a 460-hp setup with dual motors and an improved inverter — the Model Y could adopt a similar configuration. Acceleration to 100 km/h in about 3.3 seconds seems realistic.

The battery capacity is likely to remain at 79 kWh (gross). Due to the sporty focus, the range will be lower than the Long Range versions. The expected WLTP range is about 450 km. There is currently no information on new cell chemistry or altered battery modules.

Body and Interior

Despite the camouflage, the first changes in aerodynamics are noticeable. The spoiler has a new shape, and the rear bumper might be redesigned. The front currently retains familiar stylistic elements, but the production version is likely to have an updated design.

Peeking into the cabin wasn't possible, but observers report more pronounced sports seats in the first row — presumably similar to those used in the Model 3 Performance. Changes in the user interface are also anticipated (for example, graphics in the infotainment system for Performance models). Overall, the Tesla interior remains close to the standard models, with technical differences primarily concerning software, control logic, and dynamic systems.

Market Launch and Positioning

The production version is likely to be unveiled by the end of the year. The price is expected to be about 10,000 euros higher than the Model Y Long Range AWD — meaning the starting price will be around 63,000 euros.
